La Habra High School Reviews

I agree with the statement below about the group projects. I've spent countless hours helping my son with a project that 3 other people got credit for and did no work on. It's very frustrating. Most projects are a big part of the grade for that subject. I disagree with the statement about the counselors, however. Mr. Gallego is my son's counselor and has been extremely helpful throughout his high school career. Mrs. Eagleson is a wonderful counselor who also helps the ROP students. Some teachers don't care about the students but I think that most care deeply. Many of them are willing to tutor off-hours but won't chase the kids down; the kids have to be willing to get the help.

No communication, councelors don't help with class schedules. Group projects that on;y one person does the work and the whole group gets the credit. Teachers don't care as long as they get the paycheck

My son attends La Habra High, and until now we have been very pleased. He is in the Forensics Program, and he as well as us are very happy with it and with Mr. Fanning the Program Coordinator!

My son is an Honor Student at La Habra High. At LHHS, it s all about the students! Whether it s academics, sports or any of the other various activities that the school offers. Communication is top notch. With both the website & marquee being kept current and up to date. This past month, there was an incident with a student. The information from that incident was out within a few hours to parents. We knew what happened and where. I get weekly emails from the teachers, telling me what is due & what the class has done during the week. There's an Open Door Policy for the Principal or Assistant Principals. Also, a new Aeries program, which was installed in 2008, to tell us all about our students. Make a difference in your students life - get involved!

I have three kids that went to La Habra High School, the youngest is an Honor Student. I just want to emphasize that any school private or public has problems. We as parents must make a commitment to get involve with our child's academic work. LHHS provides a good foundation and education to the students that go there to learn and get involved in different activities and we as parents must also be involved in our childs activities (in and out of school) unfortunately not all parents do that.

This school has basically no communication. Report cards and progress reports are mailed to you 3 weeks after the date on them so it is too late to do anything by then. Most teachers won't email or call you back. I had to go to the principal to get anything done or any answers. There website is rarely current. My child will not return to this school. The Heritage program has group projects that 1 person usually does because no one else will show up and participate and they all get the same grade, its a joke. This happened with every project this year. Teachers are not caring except for their paycheck. Everytime you turn around they want money for something else like you are just supposed to keep giving and giving.

I am a graduate of LHHS and my 4 years of high school were a complete waste of time because the teachers and facilities were below average. I was hardly challenged in academics and the school primarily puts it focus on athletics. The football team may be considered above average but the school does not prepare its students for life after high school athletics.

i am a student here at LHHS and i just wanted to say that it has great electives

I am an grad of LHHS. I went to UCI right afterawards and just graduated this June. LHHS did not prepare me for UC standards. I almost dropped out my first year because my writing was so bad even though i maxed out the district writing exam. As far as for highly selective schools LHHS.

My son attended 4 years at LHHS and graduated in 2004. He was involved in the Heritage and AP programs as well as playing tennis. The math department was outstanding. He is a motivated student and had a great High School experience. He currently attends UC Berkeley and is majoring in Engineering. I firmly believe that his 4 years at La Habra gave him a well rounded fun acedemic experience that has helped prepared him for the future.

My son's first year at LHHS was a good one. His second year was a disaster and I didn't know about it until it was too late. He failed two of his classes and the teachers never bothered to inform me. Teachers never responded to my phone calls and emails. When I asked for a meeting with his counselor, he told me that he didn't have nothing to do with his classes and I needed to discuss it with his teachers. He will be going to another school out of the district.

As with any school, you get out what you put in. My son loved the automotive and metals classes that were offered at LHHS. If it weren't for the ROP program, I sincerely doubt he would have had the job skills he now has. Thank you, LHHS, for remembering that not all kids are college bound at the age of 17 or 18. Give them skills to get real work experience and they can have better lives.

From my experience with La Habra High School, I am very impressed with the entire teacher staff and athletics department. Although all staff is very well qualified I believe that the math department is very excellent! Keep up the good work!

After reading other reviews, I must agree. Parent participation is lacking. Ironically, it is parents like myself actually wanting and inquiring into their child's academic progress that face a barricade.

La Habra High has lack of parental involvement which leads to a reputation of a party school. The administration both at the school and at the district level seem ill informed about the students. The terrific academic programs they offer do not outweigh the lack of parental involvement and lack of programs.

Currently La Habra High is rated #3 in the school district followed by Sunny Hills. Troy is #1 and in my opinion doesn't count because it pools students from outside the district. La Habra needs to concentrate more on academics, and less on the zero tolerance policy. The Fullerton Joint School District needs to enforce high standards throughout their high schools. The campus lacks discipline and structure. The school principal and administrators should focus on raising their level of standard. I am not impressed with the school principal. For now, I recommend a private high school.

La Habra is a good place for motivated students. Students in Heritage, AP, or Honors programs will be well challenged and their minds will be stretched.

At any school, a motivated kid can learn. My kid is not motivated and we've had problems with some La Habra teachers not holding him accountable. Somehow, these teachers need to learn that this really isn't helping the kids. Campus security is a big problem. Kids who've been expelled or dropped out have easy access to campus, but parents are often not permitted to enter campus. My kid knew of another who was expelled for drug dealing and returned everyday at lunchtime, continuing to deal. Campus security would benefit tremendously from a security fence with limited ingress and egress. There's only so much that Detective Macho (LHPD) can do. The current counseling staff is very interested in the kids' well being and future, but they're understaffed and only the kids who are motivated or with motivated parents get attention. Parent participation centers around social events, but there's very little parental academic involvement.

I choose La Habra High School for my son, this is the worst decision I made, La Habra High is not safety, for lunch the 'Senior's' can leave the campus for lunch my son and friens ara 'freshman's' every day they leave campus for lunch, the attendace staff, front office they treated the studen's like nothing, they call the parents only when the studen is not in class no matter if the studen has (F'S), they need the studen's too be in class to get paid.

My kids go to La Habra High school and if I had to choose a school for them to attend again, I would still enroll them at La Habra High. The Staff is very dedicated to the education and safety of its students. The district has done a great job of adding a new science building, which is state of the art, and much of the school has received a fresh coat of paint, with more renovations to come. The experience my kids have had while at La Habra High has been a good one. Another positive, if your child is a student athelete, you could not ask for a better atheletic department. Boys and Girls atheletics are outstanding at La Habra.

If I had to decide where to send my kids to high school again, I would not pick La Habra high School. The are a hand full of dedicated, gifted teachers. The rest don't teach, and don't care. Many teach subjects they didn't major in. Most teachers are not available to help students before or after school. The principal lacks experience. The dress code is not enforced. We definitely let down our kids by not sending them to a private high school. The only program the school cares about is the Heritage program, which is not where college bound kids should be... no matter what the administrators try to tell you. That program uses the smart kids to try to pull up the slower students through time wasting group projects. Don't pick La Habra.

Although teachers change and the program evolves each year, the 'Heritage of the Americas' was an excellent program-especially the junior year when the students are assigned 'the decades project'. I realize extracurricular activities and classes like band aren't important to some districts because of budgets and because it is non-academic, but the band program and the director in particular are not doing right by the students who care about music. Parent involvement is amazing at LHHS. The Grad Nite parent-volunteers and the program they produce each June is totally awesome. Overall, an older campus, but in the middle of renovation and modernization, mostly high-quality teachers, all kinds of students and a lot of school pride!

I have a concern about women's sports. There are more teams available for young men than young women. Varisty BB coach has more expereince and better qualified than women's varsity coach. I wish someone would investigate title ix violations. I hope this comment is kept confidential and my email address not connected to the comment as I do not want my daughter to be hurt by my making a comment.
